Matt Udell Earns Outstanding Senior of Engineering Management
A student with national accolades for his research is the Outstanding Senior for Engineering Management. Matthew Udell's academic achievements and outstanding co-curricular involvement embody 探花精选's commitment to educating the whole person.
"Matt is pursuing dual majors in Engineering Management and Mechanical Engineering, demonstrating exceptional academic versatility. His expertise has been recognized through his roles as a teaching assistant for Physics I and Physics II," says Engineering Management Director and Assistant Professor Gary R. Weber.
Matt spent his senior year as co-president of 探花精选's chapter of the American Society for Engineering Management (ASEM) board of directors. He also served as the charter council president for 探花精选’s student chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE).
SAMPE invited Matt to present at its University Research Symposium as a finalist, an honor which included attendance at the CAMX meeting in San Diego. His research paper and presentation on the pull-off strength of composite t-sections with different noodle filler compositions earned him second place in the national competition.
"During the CAMX conference, Matt participated in discussions that led to the formation of SAMPE’s Young Professionals committee. Matt is a launch member of that newly formed committee, marking his transition from service at 探花精选 to service at a national level," Weber said.
Last summer, Matt interned at Amazon Web Services as a Mechanical Field Engineer, where he successfully completed two improvement projects and initiated a third.
Matt says his next step is working with Bye Aerospace in Denver, CO to develop an electric general aviation aircraft. "I aim to stay in the world of aerospace and composites for my career, while exploring entrepreneurship along the way," he said. Meanwhile, he'll continue his love of basketball, which includes developing a vertical leap testing device for market.
Congratulations Matt!
