“urban jazz to social dance, street styles and back again… a dance scene unseen until the lights go out”
Sossy Mechanics, in conjunction with some of the hippest choreographers and dancers in the Twin Cities, tried a late-night experiment at the Southern Theater in the fall of 2004: What would happen if we mashed up a bunch of diverse dance styles not often seen on the stage together (hip hop, flamenco, ballroom, break dance, thrash jazz, tap…) in a non-stop, live-streaming, one-hour flow of movement?
The answer: The audience ends up jamming in their seats and clamoring for more.
With a moveable lineup of movers and shakers (check our Schedule for the current crew), Dance in the Dark is an eclectic show, in which it’s hard to tell who’s having more fun, the audience or the dancers.
